Excellent choice for your Socket 2011 build
By CptAwesomeTT
I spent months doing research, agonising about which board to purchase. I had already narrowed down CPU and video card choices before hand so the last remaining choice to make was the board. I had basically narrowed down my search to the Rampage IV Extreme or the Sabertooth X79.One day I came across this MSI and it is as if the skies opened up and a heavenly tune played. Reviewing the board's layout, built in cooling and colour scheme as well as feature set, it compared very closely to the Sabertooth and even the Rampage (minus the bundled goodies of course)Of particular importance was the board's overclocking features since I was planning to pair it with an i7 3930k. Based on reviews online it seemed that this board delivers and then some. Turns out that they were right. I currently have my 3930k running @ 4.2ghz stable @ 1.180v on the vcore, prime stable @ 12 hours. I am very certain that this CPU can do a LOT more on this mainboard. The Click II bios is VERY intuitive and is a massive step up from the 'blue screen' bios of my previous MSI x58 Pro . The ONLY issue I have with the BIOS is that the built-in browser and Live Update does not function even after following the included instructions to the letter, but this is a very minor issue. All other features work great. One other standout feature is the built in Realtek 8-channel sound. In the past I have had to use a Creative X-Fi sound card to supply my Logitech Z-2300 with decent audio, however this realtek chip has enough juice that I do not even need an additional sound card. Here is a run down of my build: (all bought right here on Amazon)Case: MYOPENPC DOMA Pro PCICPU: Intel i7 3930k @ 4.2ghz 24/7RAM: Corsair Vengeance 16GB (4x4GB)Cooler: Thermalright Silver Arrow SB-EBoard: MSI X79-GD65 (8D)HDD: Crucial M4 128gb, 300gb WD VelociraptorVideo: 2xGTX 680 EvgaIn summary, this is an OUTSTANDING board. You absolutely cannot go wrong as it performs among the best at a price that is cheaper than the rest.

Loaded with features
By Paul Wulfing
This was my second build. My first build was also a MSI board(x48 platimum). The board with the latest BIOs (1.7) is very stable. Had no issues in two months since installation. The build went smoothly; the key for me was that I had the Bios flashed to 1.7 before building so I avoided any BIOS / hardware compatibility issuesI purchased the 8D (vs the 4 slot version) not for the 8 DIMMs slots but for the LED diagnostics which comes with the 8D; this feature can be very helpful should one experience hardware issues upon booting,The ability to access the BIOs via several methods is a very handy feature. Would not recommend updating the BIOS via the Live Update software but to use the methods outlined in the MSI user forums .. read about too many failed bios updates using Live updateMSI provides a full suite of software, I have not installed all the software available but that is a personal preference. The back panel IO shield is not flimsy unlike the X48 one. A pretty complete set of cables, connectors, brackets etc.The board has alot of great features and capacity. The ability to have two video cards in cross fire run "PCIe 3.0x16" is great.4 SataII connectors at 6GBs and another 4 at Sata II 3GBs.....USB 3.0 for the front panel and as well the back I/O panel etcI am using the onboard audio which surprising is very good(had used a Creative PCI audio card before)My build is:i7 393016 GBs Corsair Vengence Memory (XMP -2133) 2x8Corsair HX-1050 power supplySapphire 2GB 7870 OC video cardWD Velociraptor 1TB (OS) HDDWD Black 2TB HDDUSB 3.0 hub with External WD 1 TB passport HDD2 LG Lite DVD burnersThermaltake Armour Revo case with 5 case fansRazer mice and keyboardDual Samsung monitors

Blue Flames
By VolkNasty
I installed everything the way it should be, no over clocks everything is/was baseline. On the initial power up, I was treated to a big blue flame. The VRM connectors and a bad bios are to blame. Gigabyte said they fixed the problem, however this board definitely slipped though quality control. Getting a refund and buying MSI, at least they use good components.
