AS Rock ROCKS
By Ken Hall
It's part of 3 systems I built recently. I threw a top-end collection of gear to make my computers really work FAST. Imagine hitting the power button, and less than 45 seconds later, I was typing this review in Amazon. The board is physically well-built, and my hands were able to install the 32GB of RAM, i7 3770k, 10 TB of HDD and SSD space in total without issue. My 6+ GB video files would always lock up on my former Dell Inspiron 518 with 8 GB of Ram. NOT the case with this AS Rock Z77!!!! I can now play video file sizes up to 20 GB flawlessly and Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit was the magic driving force here. One of the 3 had a short in it, and I had a replacement exchange with Amazon with 2 days!!! Buy it and do not look back!

Great board for HTPCs! Great Sleep/Wakeup functioning!
By tc_amazon
I have owned this for about 2 months now, in 2 phases:1. Ran 24/7 for one month--no issues2. Switched to sleep on idle since thenSo far this board has been problem-free. Here are some of my system specs so you know what I'm driving:i3-3225 (using the integrated HD4000 graphics)8GB RAM120GB SSD (SATA 6MB/sec)1TB HDD (SATA 3MB/sec)DVD/CD optical drive380W 80Plus Bronze power supplyLogitech K400 wireless USB keyboard/mouse comboWindows 7 Ultimate (32 bit) with Windows Media Center as entertainment hub (DVR, Movie playback)HDHomeRun Prime (Network Tuner, not included in power consumption figures below)Here are my observations/suggestions:Driver Installation & SetupAvoid packaged bloatware on enclosed CD (be mindful of the driver packages you chose to install, most people don't need very many). It would be wise to search forums for various recommendations, which I found to be a valuable resource. You can download the latest versions of drivers from the ASRock website, but for the most part, they are the same versions shipped with the included CD. Very simple process even for a newbie. The instruction book could do a better job of describing the setup. Perhaps for seasoned builders it's not a problem, but for first-timers things could prove challenging. (Fortunately there are discussions on web forums that can help fill in the details.)Sleep & Power ManagementSleep draws only 1.9W power with both RAM & USB powered (as measured with a Killawatt). Wakeup from sleep (by wireless keyboard activity such as keypress or mouse movement) is trouble-free. The system comes up fully in about 4-5 seconds--very impressive! NOTE: there is also an IR header on the board that allows the conversion of a front panel USB port into an ASRock proprietary IR receiver port called the "Multi-angle CIR Remote Receiver". The significance of this IR receiver is that with direct board-level access, it is possible to power ON/OFF the motherboard. I was considering using this, but found the keyboard activity wake from sleep to be a simpler overall solution (I use the popular Logitech K400). The Windows Media Center will also automatically wake the computer to perform scheduled recordings. The board has been very energy efficient even under the toughest conditions for an HTPC. For example, I can record 3 shows in HD, and watch a recorded HD show simultaneously without any difficulty, drawing 48W at maximum. (measured with a Killawatt). Although not essential, I also scheduled a weekly "maintenance" reboot using Windows 7 integrated Task Scheduler, to keep things running fresh.Function as an HTPCHas optical audio output from motherboard, perfect for direct input to AV receiver. It is sometime difficult to direct the sound output, as I have not been able to simultaneously output sound thru HDMI and normal line out. I suspect it is possible, but I haven't determined how. For now, I find I have to change the "default playback" thru Windows Sound to switch outputs. Video playback is crisp, smooth and effortless (I use HDMI to my HDTV). I think it pairs beautifully with the i3-3225 with Intel HD4000 graphics processor. Some people have complained that there is a layout issue with cards installed getting in the way of other components. I can see how this would be an issue for some, but if you're purpose is HPTC (hence the smaller form-factor mATX) it is likely that you won't be using those slots anyway. If you do plan to use those slots, you would probably be better served with the full ATX board.Overall, I'm very happy with size (mATX), graphics quality, port availability, execution of sleep functions, and power consumption which are all essential for HTPC performance. The minor deficiency in documentation that I described above should not deter first-timers from considering this board as it is a solid product built with quality components that I expect will provide several years of service.A very satisfied 5 stars.

I really like this motherboard!
By Hectordj
I have always bought ASUS motherboards before for their performance and stability. This is one of the best motherboards I've tried so far. I prefer the smaller cases and the microATX form factor, so that I can keep the case on my desk top. This board has all the features I wanted and the eSATA connector on the rear panel is SATA3. The only drawback for small cases is that the CPU socket is slightly closer to the front of the case, so I had to re-locate my hardisk in order to clear the Scythe Shuriken Low Profile cooler/ heatsink for the CPU.
