Great motherboard for first PC build
By T. Tozawa
I'd like to preface the review by stating that I have never built a PC before and I have never overclocked before. I've only owned low end pre-built/secondhand PC's and I've only performed simple upgrades such as RAM and video card installation. With that said, I researched the different motherboards from Gigabyte, ASUS, ASRock, etc. for my budget PC build and ultimately chose this motherboard based on good reviews over on Newegg. The price was decent, had enough features (USB 3.0), and a user-friendly BIOS.Since this was my first PC build, I was a bit scared about the build process as well as the possibility of receiving a faulty motherboard, but after carefully installing all the components, the motherboard was able to POST on the first try, which is always a good sign. After installing the OS and updating all drivers, I tested all my installed components and had a problem with my USB 3.0 card reader which utilizes the on-board USB 3.0 header. I figured that maybe the BIOS firmware was at fault and although I was a bit hesitant, I ended up flashing the BIOS to F18 which was a simple process and went without a hitch. (After more testing and online research however, I narrowed it down to the card reader being the culprit.) One good thing about this motherboard is that in case you screw up your BIOS, there is a backup BIOS that loads in case you screw up the first one.Overclocking was one of the things I definitely wanted to do so after my initial setup and after tons of research and reading, I entered the BIOS to tweak the settings. Adjustments through the BIOS were extremely simple in regards to CPU clock ratio and manually setting a CPU Vcore voltage. However, when I tried to tweak offset voltages, I couldn't find a way to unlock the Dynamic Vcore (DVID) option - it was stuck on Auto with no way to access it. After some more research, I figured out that under the CPU Vcore setting, I had to set it to Normal. The instruction manual has no info on this section so it was a bit frustrating trying to figure this out at first. One other thing to mention is about the RAM I installed. It's rated at 1600 but after first boot-up, the motherboard only recognized it at 1333. I had to load Profile 1 under the XMP setting to get the RAM to run at 1600. Since I'm new to PC building I'm not sure if this is a fault of the motherboard or the RAM or just how it is - but I just wanted to throw it out there in case any newbies like me want to make sure your RAM is running at the correct speed. As of now, I've only had this PC up and running for a few days but the motherboard has been working well. The BIOS was user friendly and simple enough to tweak settings to achieve a stable 24/7 PC.For reference purposes, here are the specs of my budget PC build:CPU: Intel i5 2500K Quad-Core 3.3GHz (Overclocked to 4.5GHz)PSU: Corsair TX650 Enthusiast Series 650wGPU: ATI Radeon 5570 (Carried over from previous PC)Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-Z77-D3HRAM: G.SKILL Ares Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3 1600Cooling: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVOCase: Cooler Master Elite 431 PlusMonitoring the PC using CoreTemp, RealTemp, CPU-Z, and Prime95 I am getting an idle vCore of 0.92v and 1.34v under Prime95 (blend), running at an offset voltage value of -0.40v. With the help of the aftermarket cooler, temps average around 30c at idle and 65c under load (again, Prime95 blend test.) I'm still new to all this overclocking business but it seems to show decent readings.Overall, a wonderful motherboard that's simple enough for a noob like me to overclock without much difficulty.

Excelent MB
By Andrew Davis
Good performance! I haven't seen problems so far. Using it with a core i5 cpu, an EVGA 550Ti GeForece, and 8 gb ram corsair. Running Win7 64 bits

Great overcloker for the price! core i5 3570k @ 5GHz!
By Bradley Lavey
This is a very sturdy board for a Gamer or everyday user for the money. No issues at all with bios or installation. Bios is overclocker's heaven, lots of tweaks, and this board can actually handle them. Have my i5 3570k Overclock by turning up the turbo boost multiplier to 50, i turned up the turbo instead of the core multiplier so that the processor would still take advantage of auto vcore and the ability to throttle CPU up or down based on demand, rather than running a constant 1.3v to vcore and 5ghz, If you are planning on doing a similar Ivy bridge 3rd Gen intel processor build with this cooler be aware that you will need to get much more powerful fans than what come stock with the coolers, and don't even waste your time trying to use intel's stock coolers that come with the processors they are a joke.Gigabyte GA-Z77-D3HCore i5 3570k @ 5.0GHzAntec Kuhler h2o 620 28 Degrees C @ Idle 68 C @ Load w/ 2x120mm fans on push pull configuration8 GB DDR3-1600 PC3-12800 Corsair XMS-3 4x2gb120GB OCZ Vertex 3 SSD- System on raid (500mb/s read 295mb/s write(crystal disk Benchmarks)500GB 32mb Cache WD seagate- HDD (Page Filing and storage)Cooler Master elite 430 Case 5x120mm Case FansCorsair CX-600 Power SupplyGeforce GTX 580Windows experience ratings: CPU: 7.8 RAM: 7.9 Aero: 7.7 3d Gaming: 7.7 SSD/HDD: 7.9
