Extreme 4 to the rescue
By R. Berry
I had been awaiting the new chipsets and finally couldn't take it any longer. This was an upgrade from my old 785 gigaboard with a 955. They were fine for daily routine, but noticed some games could do better. The addition of all the usb 3.0 and sataIII speed increases, made this the time to try the newer hardware. I used the 955 to upgrade shipped bios (p1.30) to the Beta (p1.46) and all seems well and good for now. SSD's and HHD's both show a fantastic new reponse time and the native usb3.0 have my periferals, keeping up with the rest of the new creature. I added a pciE quad bay usb3.0 card and a Biostar USB 3.0 Aluminum Front Panel CABLEUSB30 - Black for front convienience.the simple build includes: m59 nzxt case, win7hp oem64bit, this board, FX4100@(4200mhz) board set on air, OCZ 60GB Agility3, 16gb Kingston 1600ram, 640gb WD black sataIII, and OCZ 550wattmodular, sapphire 6770flex, and LG ODD, all pulling only 171 watts at ups. Extremely responsive, I hit it lucky, most all items had a rebate, and a couple have paid already. All bought here except the LG. The new eufi bios are intimidating at first. The level at which you can change "anything" Take your time and learn what can and should not be done. What's leftover, have fun with. It is very forgiving, Just find and set your initial defaults incase of "OVERDOING IT". There ar several profiles for differing situations, and if you find the need, It told me my configuration could be set to 6.something ghz, not that I tried, will wait for some of the warrenty to have expired before trying anything so far fetched.

ASROCK ROCKS
By SMcrossbay
Unlocked my old Athlon II X3 435 Rana to a Quad-core, and supports my new FX-6100 flawlessly (after a bios update but note that I bought this mobo in Dec. 2011)USB 3 & SATA III supportSupports AMD OverDriveSLI & CrossFireX supportSolid State Caps all aroundAHCI supportComes with decent software, specially AFastLAN which is really cFosSpeed's traffic shaping software. XFastLan software allows you to prioritize your games, & lower your ping in game. If you have more than one computer online at the same time and one is lagging, you can install cFosSpeed on the other computer/s and assign max download/upload speeds to each system.I've considered trying out ASRock for about 6 or 7 years. I had read many reviews that praised their mobos, stating how stable they were and boosting about overclock ability. I did some research into the company and learned how they were created by ASUS to compete in the OEM market. ASRock was under PEGATRON, a subsidiary of ASUStek, and PEGATRON was later merged with Pegatron International Investment Co., Ltd. and is now it's own independent company. I build & repair PCs and eventually ended up building a few systems with various ASRock mobos and that's what convinced me to try ASRock in my own gaming system. I'm very pleased with this ASRock mobo after over 16 months of use. I use my system to game, and to fold GPU & SMP work units for the Folding @ Home project. The UEFI is a nice improvement over the old Bios screen. I still haven't tried the XFastUSB or XFastRAM software.Make sure you set your SATA Mode to AHCI in bios Before installing windowsCurrent Specs as of April 2013:Thermaltake V9 BlacX Flex Edition CaseAMD FX-6100 Zambezi 3.3GHz Socket AM3+ 95WEVGA GeForce GTX 560 Ti FPBG.SKILL Ares Series 8GB (2 x 4GB)DDR3 1866 (PC3 14900)OCZ Agility 3 120GB SATA III SSDARCTIC Freezer 7 Pro Rev. 2 CPU Cooler PWM FanPC Power and Cooling Silencer Mk II 750WA4-Tech XL-747H USB Gaming Mouseold Logitech G15 Keyboard

Fast and Stable
By Corey340
First, full disclosure.I have been using ASRock motherboards in my builds for many years and in terms of price, performance and reliability, I have never had any negative outcomes. As for the 970 Extreme 4, it is a minor upgrade to the Extreme 3. Personally, I felt it was a bit slower than my Extreme 3 (a purely subjective observation thus the 5 star rating) but in all respects, it is a great product at a great price.I paired this motherboard with 16gb RAM, a XFX Radeon 6770 video card, a 128gb SSD and a AMD 8120 cpu for a good medium performance gaming rig and it did not disappoint.
