5The Beast
By T. Baerhold
I bought this motherboard to overclock my new Intel Core i7-950 processor. It does exactly that. Without any problems I can overclock it from 3.07GHz to 4.4GHz on air. I run it at 4GHz on a daily basis to keep the temps in an acceptable range, also have Intel Speedstep enabled to reduce power consumption and component stress during idle times. I got a Noctua CPU cooler installed. The mobo has so many options to play around with and the Windows monitoring software is really great. You can tweak all settings to perfection.I tested the mobo in triple SLI setup with 3 x GTX 470. It runs great and scales very well. However due to thermal considerations I am using it permanently in dual SLI setup with 2 x MSI GTX 470 Twin Frozr II. This keeps the temps in an acceptable range and the Twin Frozr cooling fans are keeping quiet. Together with the CPU the graphics cards have no problem running MoH and CoD Black Ops at 120 FPS with all graphic settings maxed out (32AF for example). There is still overhead for more FPS as both CPU and Graphics card don't hit 100%.Reason to get 120 FPS in games is nVidia 3D vision. I have bought an Alienware 3d Vision ready display and the 3D Vision set from nVidia with the shutter glasses. Stereoscopic 3D is awesome. I can play games, watch movies and photos in 3D now. CoD Black Ops looks great in 3D and my systems achieves 60 FPS left/right shutter (= 120FPS total) on the 120Hz 23" LCD display.I also tested 3D Vision Surround on three monitors in none stereoscopic 3D. That runs well in a couple of games.Apps run blazing fast. Office 2010 apps start in less than one second.I am using 2 x SSD drives for Windows and applications on the two Marvel SATA III ports which support AHCI. After reading through newsgroups I decided to not install the Marvel drivers in Windows but use the Microsoft drivers. My system is really quite and ultra fast with 0.1 milliseconds access time and read speeds up to 250MB/sec. When running a benchmark test one SSD achieved an access time of 0.0934 milliseconds. Wow! Compare that to a regular HDD.The integrated JMicron eSata controller works very well and guaranties high speed access. Much better than USB 2. I have two external eSata disks which I use as backup disks. The transfer rates are excellent. This is the best and fastest system I ever had and I would recommend this to anyone as first choice.Only thing I have to complain about is that I did not manage to get some manufacturer recommended memory to run at stock 2000MHz using XMP or manual settings, even none overclocked at CPU stock speed. Maximum speed achieved was 1600MHz. So I returned the 2000MHz RAM and got DDR3-1600 memory with the fastest timing available (6-8-6-20) instead which runs fine even while fully over-clocked.I read somewhere that the next Intel generation CPU will run on socket 1366 (this mobo). So, upgrades will be probably affordable without replacing the entire system.

4Very pleased
By VQA
For a long time I figured I'd buy a cheaper Gigabyte motherboard but in the end this just seemed like too good of a package to pass up. Here's the build I put together (my first solo build):Asus Rampage III formulaCorsair Dominator DDR3 1600mhzIntel 950 I7Cooler Master 690 II AdvancedCooler Master 212 CPU CoolerCrucial C300 128GB hard driveCooler Master Silent Pro Gold 1000I haven't picked up a video card yet as I'm waiting to see how the AMD 6950/6970 compare to Nvidia's 580GTX (I'm using an ancient ATI card to get me through all my software installations). These are very fresh observations as I'm just now wrapping up getting things started. The good:1) Beautiful2) Bios is very robust. I'm a complete novice and I was able to fumble my way through with only a couple trips to BIOS my computer is flying.3) Indicator lights all over the board to help you if you have to trouble shoot - I had no trouble-shooting to do.4) I intend to dabble in overclocking but not until I start feeling like my computer is getting a bit stale... and even then I'm sure I'll be conservative in what I do. Having this motherboard and having thoroughly investigated the Bios options I feel very confident. The bad:1) One USB port seems to be having intermittent issues. I have more USB ports than I'll ever need though so I'm not concerned in the least.2) I originally installed my C300 (firmware 0002) in a SataII port to load the OS and get things started. After everything was installed I moved the hard drive to a SATAIII (6G) port and the computer failed to find the SSD. I searched the Internet high and low trying to find a solution. I then shrugged and installed the SSD in the other SATAIII port and everything fired up all dreamy like. My Windows Experience data transfer score went from a 7.3 to a 7.9. This has me a bit concerned that one of my 2 SATAIII Ports may not work. Seeing as my computer still seemed light years ahead of any other computers I'm using with the SSD in the SATAII port I'm not too concerned.EDIT 12/26/2010 - I just installed a Western Digital Black Caviar SATA III drive into the second SATA III port. As stated above, I originally hooked my C300 up to this port and my computer refused to boot from it. This led me to wonder if the second SATA III Port had issues. I'm happy to report my Western Digital hard drive is working super snappy in that second SATA III port so either I had something set up wrong for boot in BIOS or there was just something unique about the situation that was causing it to fail. At any rate, things are all going great now (with exception to the occasional USB hiccup). Also, I went ahead and overclocked my I7 to 3.69GHZ. It was an absolute snap to do and I am perfectly confident I could go higher.

5Best motherboard I bought after ASUS Rampage iii extreme
By Christie J. Paul
For those who are looking forward to buy this motherboard: Get this if you are not an enthusiast overclocker. That doesn't mean this motherboard sucks at OC'ng. It's pretty damn good at that. I OC'd my i7 920 to 3.8 without any trouble with this baby and it's running absolutely stable at does everything that I throw at it. R3E is for those who wanna go for tri-sli or OC with really-careful voltage monitoring and all those fancy OC'ng stuffs. I use my PC mainly for gaming and this board does everything I want it to do. The onboard sound chip is pretty good and it's better than what's on R3E. And the spacing of PCIe slots are amazing. I've 2 GTX480's in SLI and I appreciate the placing of PCIe slots in that case. Also, the board looks amazing inside a HAF932 and works like a charm...PS: I know my review is kinda messy...but all I was trying to say was...I love this mobo and I would recommend this to anyone who is looking for an extreme mobo under $300.
