Great Once Dialed In
By Rodolfo Zanzibar
Edit: The new bios (0702) released on Oct 6, 2011 seems to have resolved at least some of the issues. My mouse now works in the EUFI bios and the bios notes mentions "1. Improve memory compatibility 2. Improve system stability"I had a few major issues with this but it's now working great. Some things you should be aware of:If you're installing Windows from a USB stick drive or USB CD/DVD drive DO NOT use the USB 3.0 ports to connect/boot from. The install will get started but will then fail giving either an unhelpful error or a blue screen of death. This happened in Windows 7, Windows XP, and Ubuntu. Plug it into the USB 2.0 ports and it'll work normally. The HD mode defaults to AHCI so if you installed Windows on an older hard drive and want to use it with this motherboard you'll need to go into the bios and change it to IDE mode. If you want the extra performance of AHCI on your old install google MS KB 922976 for a fix.The driver CD is unnecessarily burdened with a ton of junk-ware but that's par for the course these days.I believe the HDMI out is not turned on by default which is frustrating so I plugged in a spare video card to change the bios video boot device. There's a chance my monitor is the culprit but definitely try a video card if you have one.The RAM tuner button is a really nice touch and an LED alerts you of bad RAM.The EUFI bios is still a little buggy, my mouse jumps around like crazy so I'm forced to use a keyboard and in some cases it won't display at all before the OS boots. Personally I think the bios should be text only / low resolution to ensure compatibility but maybe I'm just old fashioned. They should have included more description in the bios itself given the new EUFI capabilities. This board has most of the features of the nearly $200 pro version but it's a lot cheaper. The pro is better for extreme overclocking.Four stars because most of the problems I had were the fault of the OS or human error. Not five stars because of the bios and HDMI issues.

If overclocking - do not enable PLL overvoltage unless you don't need sleep
By R. Suss
Here's my summary first -Value - 5 stars - good price/performanceFeatures - 5 stars (for price) - CrossFire for future gfx upgrade, enough USB, SAT6gb, etc.Stock Experience - 5 stars - everything worked fine on first bootOC experience - 3 stars - I had to spend a lot of time with it - disable PLL OV and things are fine (read below for more)Overall - 4 stars for meDetails:Used this board to build a i5 2500k based machine. At stock speeds this board performed fine for me. Booted up first time, had to re-install windows 7 since the efi bios is not compatible with non-efi installs. I had a backup of everything, so that was fine. 5 stars so far..So, here's the part that I'm taking a star away for - The Z68 chipset was released to give enthusiasts all the video features that sandy bridge supports, and the overclocking features that the previous chipsets had (those chipsets lacked the video features). The i5-k version is sold by Intel with an unlocked multiplier, specifically to allow overclocking.. so, while Overclocking is an "at your own risk" endeavor, really these things are supposedly designed for it.. generally speaking OC'ing with this board was a bit of a pain. As usual, there are a myriad of settings in the EFI bios that make little sense at first glance, so off to the internet to read for a few hours about all the details (that's expected). After a lot of reading, it seems that most people can successfully overclock the 3.3ghz i5 2500k to 4.4ghz with stock cooling - so that was my goal. In fact, this board will automatically get you close to that speed by flipping a switch on the motherboard. To make a long story short, don't mess with PLL overvoltage, turn it off. Most of the things I read said to enable it.. but there's apparently some bugs with it. With it enabled, things would go fine for a while (this includes the auto tuned OC which also enables PLL OV), but within a few hours I would have a blue screen. The real nail in the coffin was that the computer would not resume from sleep with it enabled. And it wasn't just failing to resume, the machine was completely hosed after sleep. As in it wouldn't even post until I reset the bios. So, pll-overvoltage is disabled and everythigng is fine at 4.4ghz. Everything is working just fine now and I guess this really would be a 5 star board if I didn't have these issues. The rest of the board is nice. It doesn't really look like you lose much vs. the more expensive versions here (a few usb ports, BT, 1394, esata are on the pro and not here - I don't miss them). Just a note on the new bios - I'm not blown away by it. I don't think anything is really gained vs. text based (except for some potential compatibility problems as the other reviewer notes). The basic view is pretty much useless, so go into the advanced settings and set the default to the advanced view - unless you're running stock. So, all is well and as long as this board doesn't explode in the next couple of years, I'm satisfied with the purchase.

Great board overall with minor negatives
By DJ
The board itself is fantastic, the best part probably being the GUI BIOS. The only things I have any reason to complain about is the outer port cover is really cheaply made. It is far too flimsy to stay in place sometimes so when plugging things in it will wiggle around. It basically just worries me is all. Also, the slots for the Mic and Headphones headers on the board are placed behind the GPU slot, so because I have a huge GPU it made it difficult to plug in.Overall: Very happy about the purchase.
