Great motherboard w/Nvidia chipset
By Jonathan Hefner
These motherboards are hard to find nowadays, considering AMD is really pushing their "Vision" platform, with integrated ATi chipsets and whatnot.I bought this motherboard because I hate ATi video cards, and didn't want to take a chance on using my Nvidia GT430 on an ATi chipset mobo, so I found this one. There are plenty of connectivity options here, 6 USB 2.0 ports on the back, 1 IEEE 1394 (firewire), PS/2 ports for keyboard/mouse, Gigabit LAN, 7.1 audio...all the goodies are there. You also have 2 PCI-e 1x slots, 2 PCIe 16x slots (for SLI) but they only run at 8x, which is a bummer. You also have 2 standard PCI slots to connect legacy devices. There are also 6 SATA II connectors, 1 IDE connector (for legacy Optical Drives or HDDs). Also, this board DOES have case fan connectors...can't really find those either, on newer motherboards. One of my favorite features is the Core Unlocker. For those that don't know, certain AMD processors (typically any "Black Edition" Athlon II or Phenom II, and some Semprons like the 140) are shipped as Dual or Tri Core chips, when they actually contain one or more cores that can be "unlocked", making your chip a tri or quad core unit. That is what I did with my Phenom II X2 555 chip. I plugged it in, booted up and unlocked the other 2 cores. I now have a quad core chip and I only paid 90 bucks for it. *Disclaimer: This is not guaranteed to work on all AMD Black Edition chips. Read the reviews on this particular chip and you will see that the success ratio is about 70/30, in favor of unlocking, but it is not a guarantee*.The ASUS bios is amazing. It has a unique program that allows you to get onto the web, directly from the bios, in case you forgot a driver that you needed for the install (although my SATA II drive was detected by Windows 7 with no driver necessary). In the bios you can also utilize the core unlocker by pressing the F4 button on your keyboard (otherwise there is a switch directly on the motherboard that you can flip to enable, while the unit is off). All in all, it's a good board, with a lot of connectivity options. I only wish that the PCI-e x16 slots actually ran at that speed instead of x8.

Nice board at a nice price
By Marlon A. Thomas
Ok i've had this board for like a month now. and i've came across some important pros and cons.starting with cons:1. No usb 3 or sata 3. which sucks period. :(2. The two black sata II ports did not work for me for some reason so im stuck with 4 sata ports which does bother me. but it might to u.3. Overclocking is kind of annoying since the ram frequency increases when u increase the cpu bus spd. (excuse im a novice @ OC this is only my second time n my 1st with this board) but i'll admit it was much easier to get to 4.0 GHz on my previous biostar board without messing with ram frequencies.4. The PCIx 16 slots only run in 8x even if its a single card. isn't really a con but just thought u should know.5. This bothers me, there a green asus screen that comes up after xpress gate that u have to press tab to skip and even if u do u wont get to see the post screen with info about your pc parts. which i know not to disable and it isn't where the option to disable xpress gate is in the bios.6. If your using dual graphics cards especially the dual slot ones you wont be able to use the other pci slots without heat issues. Now for pros.1. I managed to get my ram up to 1333 & my cpu over clocked to 3.87 GHz on auto voltage and just by changing the cpu bus frequency all proven stable with 6 hrs of prime 95 and mem test.2. I Dont know if its the cool and quiet technology, EPU technology or something else. but even with my over clocking settings my cpu usually runs @ GHz at idle or when im web surfing or watching movies. when im playing games (flash or light games like chess) i get around 2.4 GHz, and the full 3.87 when ever a launch crisis two, metro 2033 or any intense game. so my cpu temps are really low under normal circumstances. and that's pretty cool. =P3. Support for Sli with an AMD cpu. The main reason i bought this board.4. A whole lot of good stuff like xpress gate, EPU and turbo key.5. Decent build quality with little flex under average pressure.6. Easy bios flash with the bios flash utility, i flashed and upgraded my bios in like 2-3 mins with support for 6 core cpus. All in all. a great board for a low price AMD and sli config. just remember no sata III or usb 3.0 but if that doesnt bother you. rock on.

great mobo!
By Joey
Great motherboard! Currently running on unsupport (1600mhz) ram and didnt even need to press the memOK button, the mobo automatically did it for me. And for those who are complaining about it running in 8x single mode for a PCIe card, go google it. There is only about a 2-3fps difference between running 8x and 16x on a single card, its no big deal for a dual SLI mobo.
