how I fixed persistant reboots/BSOD
By Jamie Beck
When I first got this board I had just bought a new case as well. The case came with some cool looking black screws that I used to secure the motherboard to the case.I was getting constant (system would not run more then 10 mins) reboots and BSOD. I tested the memory and triple checked everything including the PSU. I'll spare you all the iterations I went though. The solution to my problem was those black screws I used. I replaced them with the regular motherboard screws and bam no more problems. It has been running smoothly for over a month now.Seems like this board is picky about grounding. Make sure you use good screws in every hole on the board so that everything is grounded (good advice for any MB).

Flawed Gem
By G. Davis
EDIT: See end of post for update after 1 and 1/2 years of ownership. This is one of the most feature complete boards I have ever personally seen. I needed it specifically for it's support of both Crossfire and SLI. However I have had nothing but trouble from this from the very start. The manual makes no mention of a couple of key plastic peel offs which is normally no problem as they are obvious, however this has one in particular that cannot easily be seen. It's on and under the heatsink for the Northbridge, which leads me to my next problem. After starting the system up for the first time I proceeded setup the BIOS and then install Windows. However, after about 10 minutes the system shut off. Panic immediately set in, as a system shutting itself off is NEVER good. I turned it back on and within five seconds the system shut off again. I knew then that something was overheating and the BIOS was protecting the system by turning it off. After waiting about an hour I fired (word chosen for irony) the system up and went into the BIOS so I could monitor the temperatures. It became apparent instantly that the culprit was the Northbridge, which was skyrocketing up in temperature. I quickly looked inside the case to see of the fan was moving on the Northbridge and it was. So I turned everything off, loaded up my laptop and proceeded to research the issue. Apparently the Northbridge on the motherboard is known to have heat issues. Seeing this I resigned myself to requesting a replacement from Amazon (their wonderful RMA process made this almost bearable). When I got the new motherboard the very next day (thanks again Amazon) everything seemed to be just peachy. Temperatures were withing norms and Windows 7 installed without a hitch. That is until I began installing the motherboard drivers. I received no less than 6 BSODs while installing the drivers. They were of all different types, most leading me to believe something was wrong with my system RAM, while some were more sinister. I then began the 'Troubleshooting Hop' where in you remove every single superfluous item from the system and then slowly add them back in until it is no longer stable. I was greatly disappointed to find the system continued throwing Bluescreen errors. I ran Memtest86 4.10 for 72 hours straight and it threw 3 single errors on the same memory address. After replacing the RAM I was able to get the system stable again, or so I thought. Now the system regularly throws a single BSOD error. Apparently this one has to do with the onboard NIC. I have tried everything I can think of, including beta drivers from Intel. Also troubling was that updating the BIOS (from FreeDOS as it's most stable) failed and had to be repeated several times to get it to take, which is something I have NEVER encountered. I now have to decide if I want to RMA for a replacment or just get a refund.EDIT:After owning this part for nearly two years I felt I would return and update this review.BSOD Issues: This motherboard had/has several issues that can cause BSODs. The first was the bad drivers for the Intel NIC. That has apparently been fixed, but may still cause issue for anyone who installs from the CD. The second cause of BSODs from this board is it's narrow range of supported memory. Several brands/types of memory that should work are not supported and thus can lead to BSOD issues. However, this is clearly stated in the documentation of the motherboard, so you have to place some of the blame on yourself for ordering unsupported parts. My final opinion is that this board is still the best on the market for the group it caters to, overclockers. You should carefully consider if you have the knowledge level to handle the setup of this part, as there are several things that can lead to head ache. Once you get it running however it's extremely stable and thanks to its many hookups for fans it will allow you to keep the system cool and quiet. In particular I enjoy the FanXpert software. In closing if you want a part that will allow for very fine control when overclocking, there really is no other choice.

Best board money can buy
By S. Fitts
First off, i just want to say i have no idea what the other people are talking about in there reviews. I have no trouble putting in 16GB on memory and installing my air cooler. Second, this board has the best chip set cooling design ive ever seen. Im running a Phenom II x6 1090t CPU, 2x XFX Radeon 5870's 1GB DDR5, a cool master RR-B10-212P-G1Hyper 212 plus air cooler,Creative Audigy 2 ZS sound card and everything fits perfectly. This board has won over 30 awards and is rated the best and most advanced mother board on the market. If your building a gaming PC, this is hands down the board you want. I could go on and on about the ggreatness of this board but go to the Asus web site to read about it. A must buy for the serious gamer.
