The DiamondBack is an Arduino Duemilanove compatible clone that has 802.11b wireless connectivity baked directly onto the board. The components have been switched out for surface mount equivalents to free up space for the wireless module. It is fully compatible with the Processing/Wiring IDE. The DiamondBack will give your Arduino projects added wireless connectivity without the need for additional bulky shields!

I bought this because it's less expensive than an Arduino Uno and an Arduino Wifi Shield. I quickly found out that the Diamondback is not a drop-in replacement for that combo.Library-wise, the Diamondback is completely compatible with Uno and all the other newer Arduino units.Where it differs is in the Wifi functionality as compared to the Arduino Wifi shield. The Wifi shield libraries won't work. The Linksprite website is worthless. You will need to download the libraries at asynclabs.com, which includes example sketches for various uses for this product.The problem is that once you get the examples to compile and run on the Diamondback, you will discover that, in the case of using sockets or UDP, they are not fleshed-out with actual, working code to make them do something useful.In the case of UDP, I googled around, and after several hours of spinning my wheels in the mud, I eventually found a consensus among the forums that the UDP layer is only partially working and not actually useable out-of-the-box. Some hearty soul could go in and modify/create a library to get it working, (after all, UDP and sockets are software, the hardware only needs to handle the physical communications, and it works just fine). By the way, if you do this, please upload it to the user-contrib area of asynclabs.comFor my application, I went up a layer in the stack and built a sockets implementation that actually works. You will find the implementation for the example in socketapp.c The documentation for the available functions (actually proto-socket macros) are in psock.h. Be sure to mark your functions Extern "C" in your sketch if you want them to be visible to your c program.Finally, since Asynclabs dumped it, and Linksprite, apparently, is not interested in maintaining it, I'd pony up for the Arduino Wifi shield and save yourself a headache.
