4So Many USB 3.0 !
By H. Chen
I bought this board because it has many USB 3.0 ports, 6 at the back and an internal connector for the front. It also has four SATA III internal connectors along with 4 SATA II connectors. Two of the marvel SATA III connectors even have RAID capability. The BIOS firmware update utility in Windows is convenient although it might require user to download the firmware file from Gigabyte's website manually. The UEFI interface takes time to get used to, but afterwards it is quite easy to use. However, My Kingston HyperX 1600MHZ memory (2x KHX1600C9D3K2/8GX = 4x4GB sticks) can't run 1600MHZ on this board. I need to set them to 1333MHZ to prevent BSODs from occurring. It seems the board and the memory don't get along 100%.Btw, the board supports Virtu, meaning by enabling this feature and installing according software, system could switch between onchip and discrete graphics on the fly, and monitors could be set to connect either to the motherboard's ports or the graphics cards'. And although it only has a single PCI-E 3.0 slot and two 2.0 slots, it still supports 2-Way SLI or Crossfire.

5Gygabyte Z77X-D3H, Best Yet! --UPDATES-- Now Windows 8 Pro
By Doc Goodbyte
VERY PLEASED that motherboard came with the latest revision 1.1 and latest bios 15. Paired it with and i5-3570K with Stock fan/heatsink and 8GB of Adata 2000 Gaming ram and a MSI GTX 660 on Windows 7. Used XMP profile 1 in bios and ram is now 2000 and stable but is very quiet and is runnning Skyrim with high resolution texture pack at ULTRA (Steam default) with 60fps (which is maximum with vsink on).Graphical bios is minimalistic but is just perfect for me, when it comes to quality and reliability no one surpasses Gigabyte.UPDATE: Found the boot problem. It was a SanDisk USB 2.0 thumb drive and not the SATA. What happen is that when I left the thumb drive plugged in the available USB 3.0 slot that my computer would not boot. Turns out that UEFI Windows Boot Manager looks to the thumb drive first as a bootable drive and then hangs. I guess I am relegated to removing my thumb drive everytime I shut down the machine or it could be just unique to USB 3.0 slots. Seems to be unique to the UEFI bios. Also successfully set up my harddrives in Raid 0 with the Z77 chipset ports 4/3 but could not do it with Marveil on ports 6/7. Very easy to do and manual covers all the steps. Now running Windows 8 Pro Upgrade. WEI now shows (new scale 1.0 to 9.9) . Processor 7.9, Memory 8.2, Graphics 7.9, Gaming Graphics 7.9, Primary Hard Disk (older SATA 3ms disk) 5.9. Windows 8 Pro upgrade Installed without difficulty and is compatible with STEAM.

5Z77X-D3H + i7 3550K + Win8 Pro = Powerhouse Multitasker
By Russ H.
As an ITPRO who also dabbles in occasional video production (during pee-wee football season), I was maintaining 2 separate systems to manage the vastly different type of tasks. System 1 was a 1st Gen Core i7 rig that I ran Windows Server 2008R2 on so I could run HyperV and build up/tear down VMs at will. System 2 was a nice Core i5 rig that would run most of my desktop apps, games, and video production software. Now that Windows 8 Pro can support Hyper-V (with Sandy Bridge or Ivy Bridge processors), I decided that now was the time to converge the two systems in one all encompassing upgrade. So I took my server rig, pulled out the motherboard and old Core i7 and put in this Z77H-DH3 and a Core i7 3550K then installed Windows 8 Pro. This thing is stuffed to the gills with components and it runs FLAWLESSLY. I'm able to run Hyper-V VMs beautifully. I'm able to run high powered multi-threaded video compression software without a hitch. I'm able to run Windows Media Center with a digital tuner card. I've not yet found a video game that I can't run in 1080p with all the settings turned up.Here's what's in my rig:CASE: Thermaltake ATX TowerPower Supply: Rosewill RG630MBoard: Gigabyte Intel Z77 LGA 1155 AMD CrossFireX/NVIDIA SLI W/HDMI, DVI Dual UEFI BIOS ATX Motherboard GA-Z77X-D3HCPU: Intel Core i7 3550kRAM: 16GB (4x4GB) G.Skill Ripjaws PC3-10666 (A little slow, but it was from my old rig and they were proven sticks so I didn't want to mess with them)Video: GIGABYTE GV-R667D3-1GI Radeon HD 6670 1GB DDR3 DVI-D / D-Sub / HDMI CrossFire Ready Graphics Card Radeon HD 6670Tuner Card: Hauppauge WinTV HVR-1800 Combo ATSC/QAMSSD: G.Skill Falcon 256GB SSD (Again only a SATAII device, but I couldn't justify replacing it)HDD: 3 x Western Digital Caviar Black 640GB (Configured in a software striped RAID 10 - High performance but also highly volitile - backed up nightly by my Windows Home Server)Blue Ray Burner: LG WH12LS30Blue Ray Reader / DVD Burner: LG UH12LS29DVDRW: LG GH22NS40According to my Kill-A-Watt meter, the system draws about 70 watts in idle mode. When burning 3 disks simultaneously and executing a file transfer from the SSD to the Striped (3) HDD drives, I can get it to consume up to about 140 watts. So the 630 watt power supply is more than sufficient.Performance is nothing short of spectacular. Windows 8 Pro loads in about 6 seconds from BIOS post. The RAM is a little slow (theoretically) but you wouldn't notice it. I appreciate that it's a proven set of sticks and they're rock solid. The Radeon 6670 assists with hardware acceleration during video encoding so that's sweet. I haven't run IOMETER on the drives yet, but transfering data from SSD to the RAID 10 spinners has Windows 8 showing a sustained transfer rate of 225 MB/s. From the RAID 10 HDDs to the SSD the sustained transfer rate shows a slower 155 MB/s. But those numbers are good enough for my needs. I'm sure if I had disks that could take advantage of the SATAIII onboard, the rates would be even better. For those of you who are interested, I was surprised that my TV Tuner card worked without any problems in Windows 8 with Media Center (Note: You can download a free activation key from Microsoft for the next few weeks). Win 8 detected the card and installed drivers all by itself. Then Media Center saw the card and found all my over-the-air digital stations without issue. I can now use the machine to record local TV shows and then push them to my Windows Home Server for later viewing! Nice side benefit.Anyway, I just made it through an end of season burn cycle that had me compressing and burning about 40 DVDs and 6 Blu-Rays and there wasn't a single problem. The machine has been running hard through this "burn in" period (pun intended :)) for a month now and it's been absolutely flaweless. So I accomplished my goals. I now have a powerhouse multi-tasking, video compressing, gaming, VM running monster box that will serve my needs for at least the next couple of years, until I get power hungry again and need to upgrade to the latest new hottness hardware. As for those spare parts I have now... Looks like my boys are going to enjoy an upgrade from a Core 2 Duo rig to a shiny (slightly used) Core i5. Everybody wins!
