I have only built 4 or 5 PC's previously, and have used an Intel board once, and then all Gigabyte (I'm 63 years old). So using this MSI board was just a bit different, but certainly a painless and interesting experience. I am not a gamer, but still like speed and mobo ports! This board is great! Lots of USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 ports on the rear, and headers on the board for both USB 2 and USB 3 front panel ports. Gamers may not need so many ports, which may be the main 'selling point' for some users. I need ports for USB keyboard, mouse, scanner, external HDD, printers, thumb drives, battery backup software shutdown connection, MP3 players, etc. This mobo offers several over-clocking options - one thru their windows-based Control Center and also thru a button right on the mobo. Another nice touch is their solution for front panel connections. They offer little "thingys" that you plug the connectors into one at a time, before plugging the 'thingy' directly onto the mobo. Very nice touch, as the FP connections are one of the more challenging steps in putting together a PC. Please note, mobo has "only" 6 SATA connectors, which might not be enough if you have multiple HDD's, and multiple opticals (DVD, Blu-Ray). 2 of the SATA port are 6GPS. This appears to be a quality board. I am using this board with a 2600k I7 and 16 GB of Ram. Works really well when playing SC2 while steaming netflix.

I won't go too much into the specs on this motherboard, because you can find the specs online and this is 'old technology' in terms of the chipset version - Intel is currently selling Z77 boards, making the P67 2 versions old. Rather, I'm writing this review to warn future buyers of similar boards so that they don't run into the problems I did.On paper, the MSI P67A-GD80 is feature-packed - it should be for a $220 enthusiast board. More-than-will-ever-be-used USB 2.0/3.0 ports, SLI-ready, easy overclocking one-push button, etc. In fact, there are so many PCI ports and connections that it is impossible to populate them all without either running out of room or disabling a number of eSATA and USB ports. This was not a problem for me since I only had one videocard and a soundcard, but this a warning for those who have multiple videocard.As for the UEFI BIOS, I felt it was usable if you used a keyboard and not a mouse. Note that some keyboards may have issues - one of my mechanical keyboards caused the pointer to jump around the screen, the other one was fine. The menus are a little bland looking compared to ASUS', and difficult to understand for novice PC builders.The biggest problem I had, however, was that it wouldn't agree with my memory. I have good working memory - 16GB Kingston HyperX 1600MHz XMP - but I can't run it at its rated specs and speed without it crashing the system (a regular Core i7 2600K custom computer). Enabling XMP also produces the same problems. Currently the memory is running at 1333MHz - the computer fine will run under normal conditions, but if I render a video using Sony Vegas - i.e., running something system intensive - there is a chance the computer will freeze and I have to hard reboot it. I should mention that the computer is mildly overclocked to 4.4 GHz, but nothing crazy. I could run the computer at stock speeds, but that would defeat the purpose of buying this motherboard.MSI tech support was good enough to replace the motherboard after I had put up with it for a year, but the tech didn't actually figure out the problem and the memory errors still persisted. He said that the CPU pins were bent - which they actually weren't - so he said I could get the board replaced for $35. I took up the offer since I thought maybe the 1st board was bad, but the 2nd board had the same problems. Clearly the tech just wanted to pass off the problem, which must be very specific since I haven't seen similar problems with other people, but I have to mention it anyway since I am using commonly bought good parts.As of this writing I've put up with this faulty GD80 for a year and a half now. There is evidently some low-level firmware problem that probably can't adjust the memory properly, but since documentation is sparse, I can't for the life of me figure out the problem. As a warning to other buyers, go with something more solid like ASUS, or at the very least buy your board from Amazon and stress-test it so if it doesn't work, return it without hassle.
