This motherboard has series heat issues. 3 of the motherboards I had died with 1 month of each other. Why is there no fan on the heatsink? My temps were 50-60c.There is a better board found here on Newegg. [...]This is a better board! Will never trust or buy another Biostar product again!

I bought this as a replacement for a 5 year old PC motherboard that fried. I figured it would at least be a step up from what that offered, but that was not the case. The video was so poor I could not play games which easily played on the built in video of the previous motherboard. I added a cheap AGP video card and all is acceptable - but still pretty basic.

This board is amazing, a lot of features for a very low price, and silent. I'm using it now as a main system of sorts, because my home computer needs are now just a media player and news browser, with the occasional script programming under Linux.I paired this board with a GT 220 PCI-Express board, specifically the Zotac silent ones without fans (But with a huge heatsink, while keeping the silent system purpose on mind), and I'm able to watch FULL HD at 1080p with no problems using Nvidia VDPAU with MPlayer, that is surely amazing. This board, with that video card, 2GB of RAM and a couple of hard disks (One PATA, the other SATA) and it runs it all under 50 watts when playing movies. I'm very impressed with this setup.Temperatures are around 40°C in idle and 60°C at load. No problems at all with that range.But it does have hiccups here and there, for example, the sound card support under Linux is very bad, sometimes while seeking in a video file, the audio gets scrambled, and the dmesg output (The system log in Linux) displays thousands and thousands of errors for the audio module (hda-intel).About every two days I get lock ups, sometimes while transferring big files through NFS or sshfs, or after playing music for seven or more hours straight, also when I connected an USB DVD drive it crashed one time on connection.Also, the on board video is very problematic in Linux, without good support for OpenGL. And video playing is a hit-or-miss, as sometimes not even the video windows gets displayed. The fault here is on VIA for not providing proper documentation and support to willing developers. I installed the GT 220 board just a couple of hours after using the integrated video.Now, what I would really love is to have access to the same mainboard and chipset (CN896, that allows to plug a full PCI-E x16 card) but with... a VIA Nano processor!! They are pin compatible with the C7-D series, so, where are those boards? They will be a hit, at least, that's what I think about it. Keeping a *low price*, compared with the Atom offerings, and with full 64 bit and virtualization support.I'm serious here, VIA is surely missing a great opportunity by not producing or promoting the development of a motherboard exactly the same as the VIOTECH 3100+ but with a Nano CPU. The Mini-ITX with VIA components are WAY overpriced in my opinion, even more with the Atom competition they have now.However, if such mainboard is some day produced, please, please, put a silent fan on it. Even the expensive Mini-ITX have hair dryer-like fans installed. Ah, and don't forget solid capacitors, this board have a couple or so, but it would be nice to have them all as such. Ah, and a better color of the components, it looks like a kiddie playground with those colors, I have seen a red and black variant in the web, that is acceptable.
