I received a defective motherboard with only one of the two memory slots working. When a stick of good memory was placed in the second slot the board will not boot. This is not an uncommon problem if you look at other sites around the web that sell this board. I should have stuck with an ASUS board or a GIGABYTE board which have never given me any problems with defective boards out of the box.

I got this motherboard in order to build my own Ubuntu Linux box using the AMD Phenom II x2 555 Black Edition 3.2 GHz CPU. It was only AFTER I installed CPU in motherboard (and it worked perfectly without a hitch) that I found out that the CPU could be unlocked, i.e., upgraded from a dual core to a quad core CPU. It was with bated breath that I entered the bios to find that I could, indeed, change the "Advanced Clock Calibration" setting from "Disabled" to "Auto," which I summarily did. Voila! The combination of this motherboard and an AMD CPU with usable extra cores is really cool. When you try to unlock cores there are no guarantees you'll find usable ones, but all I can say is that I did so with no problem.As a sort of low-end machine, even without the extra cores, my early use indicated that I had a pretty solid, albeit modest, Linux box. The two extra cores were gravy.
