Great Board for the Noobs

This was my first ever build and this motherboard was extremely easy to work with. The user interface for the bios screen is also super convenient, colorful, and basically idiot proof. It is mouse enabled and less intimidating than the regular blue screens of text. You can easily overclock your system with a few clicks in the bios and you're on your way. I put an i5-2500k, cooler master hyper-212 aftermarket fan, 8 gigs of G.skill ram, and an xfx radeon 6850 graphics card. Everything fits pretty easily in the board and everything is clearly labeled. At least three included fan headers so if you're looking to add more case fans be aware of that. I'll just condense the main pros and cons of this board.Pros-Super easy bios screen-Clearly labeled beginner friendly-Decent price-Decent performance running at 3.2 ghz without even overclocking-Easy overclocking softwareCons-With an aftermarket cooler fitting your ram in can be a pain especially if they aren't low profile as the cooler will jut out and block entry to your ram slots-Doesn't make me a sandwich

I just purchased this Main Board along with the Intel i5 2500k Quad Core processor, 16 GB Patriot memory 600GB 2.5" 15,000 RPM WD Raptor. This machine is a screeming mimi. from Power Button to Desktop 3.5 Seconds on default settings no over clocking, as yet. Running the big 3 fan Blue and Black Zalman chiller.It is a very very easy board to seat and the processor and heatsink are piece of cake to install, my secret is the Lian Li tooless case with the Slide Out tray. Amongst other thumb screw removable hardware. I wish it had more USB board headers especially USB 3.0 20 pin, which it does but no adapters to convert it to 2 USB 2.0 headers. but all in all CPU and Board was $588.00 the Lian Li was $270.00 on top of the board chip and ram. I am thinking about removing the Zalman and replacing it with Liquid. Now I can start banging on the clock. hehe evil me... Truthfully there is really no reason to overclock this system. it runs as fast if not faster and more powerful than my Dell Poweredge 1900 Twin Quad 2.33's. I have the Dell up for sale $1,300.00 if anyone reading this wants it call me(562) 596-8983.Now my summary of this: 1 to 5 1=extremely difficult *** 5=extremely easy1. Ease of installation 42. Bios Configuration 43. Drive Control and setup 44. Overclocking - Have not attempted5. Would buy or recommend to a friend - Defiantly.

So Far, So Good

I got this while building a "gaming PC" at home. It's really exactly what I expected and works nicely. I only have two complaints and they're not really anything special. First is that, while the boot screen is changeable, you have to have a correctly formatted partition to do it. I've got an NTFS partition (for Windows) and it cannot read that while in BIOS, so the boot screen is still stock for me. The BIOS is pretty nice otherwise, much more feature rich than what I expected but then again this is my first PC building experience. The other "issue" is that I would have liked more ports on board for various things. All the documentation on the page is correct, installing everything was a snap and my i7 spins away beautifully and my memory installed nicely. There's just enough room for my big, fat, Sapphire video card, and I plan to get an eSATA adapter for the front panel. I don't have any USB3 devices so I can't really test those yet. All in all, for my first PC build this was a great board, though I did need instructions and a little help actually putting it all together.

What I mean is it can take a beating and works great. This board is great for first time OverClockers (OC) to enthusiast/professional OCers. Let me tell you why this board is great if you haven't already visited other review sites and seen all the other great features. This board can be used by anyone; Asus has made it so simple to OC. You simply just click a CPU speed you like in the BIOS and done. Don't know how to get to the BIOS, no problem. You can OC through the Asus AI Suite II right on your desktop. What more could you want.Now the BIOS, which are simple, yet sophisticated. It is nicely layered and easy to use. Want it even easier, click EZ BIOS and you have a simple and functional BIOS screen. When Asus designed this board they designed it in a way that will appeal to everyone. They don't want to keep anyone out. I know I said I wasn't going to talk about manual OCing but I just wanted to add that the OC Key is a great item to have if you are really going for a strong benchmark.As noted above, I am running SLI and it worked first try without any hiccups. There is even software that is provided called Virtu MVP which takes the IGPU and works with the GPU for increased power. This actually helped FPS go up another 5-10 BUT there is a list of supported games and if it isn't supported it can ruin the game experience by actually causing hiccups (short freezes nonstop). This is nothing to do with the board, this is just a FYI.There really isn't much more to say except this motherboard is great and works perfect for anyone that wants something powerful and will last for a long time. INCREDIBLE Z77 board from the future :)

Bought this board for a replacement of my semi-functional Z77 FTW and no regrets!Everything literally possible included on it works right out of the box!No memory compatibility problems! My Mushkin 996990 sticks were designed for P67 and still work awesome and overclock stable as high as 2400MHz in 2-stick setup or 2200MHz in 4-stick config, zero trouble! it was a big caveat of Z77 FTW, now all problems gone!I can use Integrated graphics of my 3770K whenever I need to (e.g. for playing around with Lucid MVP), wasn't the case with Z77 FTW ...BIOS looks like it came from 22nd century and has multitude of options (still learning it) and possibilities are nearly infinite! it takes a while to get used to it, but it's well worth it and runs very nicely and easily recovers from faulty settings without a need to press the CMOS reset button (haven't used it even once yet!).I also enjoy the OC Key, WiFi/Bluetooth module and load of apps that actually run great and do what they were designed for!A+, Great job ASUS! :)))

A High Quality Motherboard From Asus!

More features than anyone would ever need, high quality components! If your into overkill products this is the motherboard for you, easily overclocked my i7 3770K to 4.5 GHz on first attempt while using iGPU on air cooling. Got it, plugged it in and worked like it was supposed to, zero issues with this motherboard after two months.If you want the best Z77 motherboard this one has it all, this is the king of Z77! All memory dimm's work without issue, doesn't even really mater which you use for module #1 and #2, red or black it doesn't matter. BIOS is where this board really shines, not much effort to overclock processor.Pay attention to where the SATA III 6Gbps ports are on board for Intel's controller, I made the mistake of instead using the third part SATA III 6Gbps ports. If using an SSD disable S.M.A.R.T. and make sure SATA is configured for AHCI! Lots of useful software included like the ROG Desktop themes, ROG CPU-Z.

Rock solid budget OC board

I read several reviews before deciding on this board. I was not led astray.Everything is solid out of the box. Great OC features in BIOS. I OC'd my i7 3770k to 4.2ghz using the pre-set OC settings. I had it running at 4.4ghz for a while, it was stable & running fantastic. I decided to scale it back to 4.2ghz since I am only using a Hyper 212 for cooling. I may yet decide to upgrade my cooler & bump it up to 4.6 or higher but I am very happy where I'm at.This is a great Z77 board regardless of the price. I highly recommend it for any budget to mid range build.

Good cheap Z77 board

Does not support SLI, but I have it running a single card anyway. This is a good price for a Z77 with all of the benefits - UEFI, ultra fast boot, USB3 etc.I have this in my bedroom PC where I leave the system off until I use it and it definitely benefits from sub 7-sec boots.

This 2 Port USB A Slot Plate converts the USB pins from most AT style Pentium (and newer) motherboards to 2 standard USB A-Style ports. The plate can be mounted on the rear panel of a computer case, adding two USB A female ports for simple connection to USB peripheral devices.

Works fine .. but you'll spend a few minutes re-pinning it.

Ok. Your computer motherboard has an unused 2x5 male-pinned header that serves up two USB ports. [Those are usually there in case you happen to have internal devices that expect to be powered, controlled and/or configured as USB devices.]And your normal-height computer case has an unused slot in the back.Who can't use more external USB ports, right? So plop down the $8 + s/h get this thing.The wires are short. I measured them at exactly 7.5" from base of the USB port to the very end of the wire header. Since the USB Ports actually sit an inch or more above the mobo, in practical terms, you're not going to get much more than 5 inches of reach. If you need an 12" extension cable, look at item cab-167 vended at FrozenCPU. Even the wire color is a match.There WAS a catch. The female end of this gizmo that plugs into the motherboard was mis-pinned. Swap the pins into the correct location and you're good-2-go.On the motherboard, the CORRECT pinout for a single USB internal header is: Pin1, Red, +5v (Power) Pin2, White, USB- (Data) Pin3, Green, USB+ (Data) Pin4, Black, Ground Pin5, Void (OR an optional, heavier-gauge black wire for SGND, Signal Ground)I rec'd this gizmo pinned as Pin1-Red Pin2-VOID Pin3-White Pin4-Green Pin5-BlackI had to carefully move the female pins around to correct this.Use the smallest jeweler's (or eyeglass repair) flat-tip screwdriver you can find. Gently and ever-so-slightly lift the small restraining flap in the plastic terminator--the end to lift is found at the lower edge of the little open square that reveals a part of the pin. The pin should slide/drop right out. Then slide the pin into the correct slot. The pin will click in place behind the restraining flap. Don't bust the flap off or ... well, you know.While this fix is simple enough, you can be sure that thousands of customers created immense amounts of costs and work for the manufacturer and vendors when they simply returned these things after finding the USB ports didn't work.As such, you can also be sure that somewhere, in some distant part of the world, the worker who built tens of thousands of these incorrectly -- a worker whose only job description was "insert Pin1 as red, Pin2 as white, ..." -- has now returned to a career in agriculture.UPDATE: I bought another one of these in August, 2011. It came (correctly) pinned as:Pin1-RedPin2-WhitePin3-GreenPin4-BlackPin5-BlackI guess the first one was just a one-in-a-zillion dud.

Exactly what I wanted

Motherboards like my Biostar have multiple USB 2.0 connections (usually 2 USB ports for the front panel and an unused USB connection with 2 more ports just sitting there.) Here's an easy way to add a couple USB 2.0 ports to the back panel without using a mobo card slot.

I have Intel DG33TL and DG41TY motherboards with lots of USB connectors on the board. These are intel style 2x5 connectors.StarTech plugs into the 2x5 connector right in, no pin swapping is needed. The shielded-looking wire goes into the not-connected area (reserved for the cable shield (not used/not needed). The rest is compatible with the MoBo.

Amazon still shipping old revision

Just FYI to purchasers, Amazon is still selling the old revision 1.0. Apparently Amazon does not move stock very fast because Gigabyte released the 1.1 revision over 4 months ago. Also don't be fooled by their stock photos. The photos they have are of revision 1.1 but they aren't shipping it. Kind of deceitful really.

Gigabyte EP45-UD3R motherboard

I bought this motherboard after a fair amount of research and I am very pleased with it. It runs flawlessly out of the box, overclocks my Q6600 2.4 Ghz to over 3.4 GHz with minimal heat on the board or the chip, and is very compatible with Windows XP SP3. Mac OS X and Ubuntu Linux with minimal configuration.It is a very well built board mechanically, and the Intel P45/ ICH10R chipsets run smoothly and cool (40 degrees or less). Good windows software and drivers on the CD and others readily available on the 'net. Ubuntu Linux 8.10 recognized it out of the box without added configuration - nice, after some problems in the past with some of the Asus boards.Highly recommended.

Memory picky

Many folks have trouble getting this board stable. It is very picky with memory in dual channel.Had tons of trouble running it at 1066 with OCZ RAM @ 2.2Volts. Came right in with G.Skil DDR2-1066.I'm also told it likes Mushkin but not Crucial. Recommended memory on the GB website includes OCZ and Crucial (?)Also, it has more BIOS choices than Baskin-Robbins has ice cream flavors. Be sure and flash to F9. Study the manual. Good luck.
