Purchased this MB to replace a failed board in a Gateway DX4831-e. I originally upgraded the bios on my existing board using the file on Gateway's website. Followed all directions to the letter and it completed successfully however after rebooting I got a checksum error. Tried replacing the battery, clearing using jumper on board, and reloading factory settings. None of these worked. Replacement board was $129.99 but this one is newer has more features like a DVI port instead of just a VGA one. It also allows 16 GB of memory instead of just 8GB on my old board. It was easy to install and worked great and booted up fine the first try! Shipping was not Amazon prime but still received in about 4 days from ordering using standard rates.

I purchased this board specifically for use in a media center pc/home server. Overall it is quite good. The 7.1 channel analog output is a huge bonus for me. I don't have an AV receiver that can decode DTS MA or DD True HD, but the software decoder for the BD player delivers excellent sound through the RCA outputs. The board can handle 4GB DIMMs, so if they ever become inexpensive a guy can get 16GB of RAM. There are plenty of on-board USB ports, so there should be no problems with finding a port in which to plug-in a USB accessory.So, why four instead of five stars? First, the HDMI out is not very compatible with my TV--I get a significant amount of overscan. I can correct this, but doing so changes the quality of the picture. Perhaps a later release of the video driver will fix this. The tweaking features in the driver for the on-board video are disabled. They can be enabled only by OEMs. Another downside for me is there are only five internal SATA ports. For many this is more than enough, but if you are planning to create a RAID array with four drives you can have only one optical or other drive unless you purchase an add-on card. A minor quibble--the current driver for the network interface does not support jumbo frames. I use this device as an iSCSI target, so not having jumbo frames is a bummer. I am hopeful future editions of the driver will enable jumbo frames because the chipset supports 4K Ethernet frames.This board can be tweaked and overclocked, but boards from other vendors are better. Don't bother with this board if you want to run your processor or memory at higher than stock speeds.

I bought this for a HTPC build along with a Core i3-530 2.93GHz processor. I wanted the ability to bitstream the audio to my audio processor without any additional cards (was using a HDAV 1.3 Slim prior to this build). The BIOS only allows you to bump up the voltage...I wish there was a way to underdrive to further reduce the 27watt power consumption! My only complaint about this is the signal strength out of the HDMI port. I wired up my office and entertainment room with HDMI keystones in the wall. A 25 foot blue jeans HDMI cable connects the ports and I haven't had a single problem with my old workstation (with the Asus HDAV). I connected this motherboard to the HDMI keystone in the office and had dithering or noise on the screen. Luckily, the HTPC chassis was nice enough to put it underneath the tv next to the a/v processor so I don't have to run such a long cable. But I'm sure there are others who might have a different thought of setup and would like to know this.
